Fundraising Convention 2016.

February 10th, 2016 Posted by News No Comment yet

The Institute of Fundraising’s annual Fundraising Convention is back, and this year, it’s going to be bigger, better and offer more opportunities than ever before.

The Fundraising Convention 2016 will be held at The Barbican Centre from the 4th – 6th July. Based in the heart of the city of London, The Barbican is Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue.

The three day conference will see a programme jam-packed with a huge variety of activities, talks, seminars, workshops, debates and networking.

With the aim of better equipping charities and fundraisers throughout Europe with the tools to sustain outstanding results, and build and maintain longstanding partnerships and integrity, the Fundraising Convention is the biggest professional fundraising event in Europe.

Highlights include workshops and seminars focused on building meaningful corporate partnerships, highlighting and sharing successful fundraising strategies and discussing the importance of communication in fundraising. An exciting new feature of this year’s event is the ‘Rising Stars’ session which will feature fundraisers from across the sector sharing their stories alongside some of the greats of fundraising. These ‘Rising Stars’ will be selected in the build up to the Convention and mentored to ensure they deliver their message exactly as intended.

The Convention provides organisations from across the sector the opportunity to network and socialise, share their stories and support, and to work together to expand their horizons.

FR Events were thrilled to attend the Convention in 2015 in Amsterdam, and will be sure to attend this summer. It is a truly inspirational event and one we highly recommend!

FR Keeps Giving: February.

February 4th, 2016 Posted by News No Comment yet

FR welcomed in the new year at a drinks reception at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Kensington at the end of last month to encourage networking between the different sectors of the charity industry we work with. Building new relationships, and maintaining old ones is at the heart of our business. We had a fantastic evening, and it was wonderful to celebrate some of our most long-standing partnerships, and welcome new ones. We decided to incorporate our monthly giving scheme into our drinks to emphasise our core values. For FR Keeps Giving: February, we held a business card draw and donated £1,000 to the winning charity. As we had a whole host of guests from all sorts of backgrounds, we had a wide variety of business cards in the draw. The winning card had the opportunity to donate the £1,000 to their own charity, or a charity of their choice.

The card was drawn by our fantastic host for the evening, Roger Dakin, former England Olympic hockey player and legendary funny man. The prize was won by a representative of the Bill Jones Beneficiary Fund, a fantastic organisation set up by the University College School to support a treasured teacher suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

FR were proud to support such a poignant charity, and we look forward to working together with the Bills Jones Beneficiary Fund on Friday 5th February at their Dinner for Bill Jones, raising even more with the #powerofpink.

Pink Nepal: When a Kind Gesture Takes You Down a 100km Road…

January 21st, 2016 Posted by News No Comment yet

“Let’s go for a run!” Anyone who fancies, whether an athlete or simply an enthusiast, can decide to go for a run and be out of the door in 10 seconds. What we don’t realise is that for many people that first step may never be taken, for a whole host of reasons. Some as simple as not being able to afford a pair of running shoes.

FR Events Asia Pacific Director, Natalia Scott, avid runner and passionate athlete, became aware of this when she discovered that in Nepal, the monthly wage wouldn’t even cover the cost of a pair of running shoes. Let alone admission fees, training costs, plane tickets and hotels. If the first hurdle is this high, how can Nepalese runners, full of potential and determination, be able to live their passion and achieve their goals?

This inspired Natalia to link her life to those of Tirtha Tamang, Bed Sunuwar, Aite Tamang, Samir Tamang and Manikala Rai. She has helped sponsor these fantastic young athletes from Nepal since 2012, and is doing so again this Saturday 23rd January for the HK 100 Ultra Race.

However, this is not just about a race, but about passion. A shared passion for running, such as the one between Natalia and her protégés, is what drives change. Trying to imagine how it would be if she herself could not afford to run has motivated Natalia to make it truly personal, even asking her wedding guests for donations towards this cause instead of gifts! Thanks to her, her husband’s and friends’ generosity, Aite, Bed, Samir and Tirtha have represented Nepal in some of the most prestigious races in Europe, including the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMC) and Sur les Traces du Ducs de Savoie (TDS). Furthermore, Manikala Rai was Nepal’s first international female ultra-runner, winning many races such as the Hong Kong North Face 100km, and has helped put Nepal on the map of trail running. Manikala was also lucky enough to meet her now husband along the way, a fellow trail runner, and now lives in the French Alps.

Natalia feels extremely privileged to have had the chance to be a small part of their running journey, and help them achieve their dreams, and is this year supporting Bed Sunuwar in his quest to win Vibram HK100 2016.

Join us on Saturday to encourage the runners and stay tuned for updates on Bed’s progress!

We want to do our bit to help generate real change and support the causes that mean the most to us both as a company, and as individuals. That’s why, starting from now, we’re going to choose one cause or charity to get behind every month and continue to do our bit. It’s what we do best, after all!

A Sportsman’s Quiz for the Alastair Hignell MS Fund.

Thursday night saw FR Events at The Brewery, an elegant venue full of character and perfect for a charity event. Ian Robertson’s Annual Sporting Quiz is a significant event for the Alastair Hignell Multiple Sclerosis Fund, raising thousands every year, and 2016 was no exception. With an effective combination of silent and live auctions, alongside fundraising games, the evening was a great success.

Both the silent and live auctions boasted some fantastic lots, most notably several outstanding Nelson Mandela items including a ‘Key and Bars’ limited edition lithograph with replica key and fabulous fine art provided by our supplier Jonty Hearnden.

From interacting with the guests to walking the items around the tables during dinner, our outstanding team worked hard to promote the fundraising and its cause, leading to a fantastic night and some #realresults.

Run a Successful Charity Event: Making a Pink Statement With FR Events.

January 15th, 2016 Posted by News No Comment yet

Running a charity event that makes an impact is time consuming, and requires hard work and extensive resources. Add a fundraising element to the mix and it becomes even more complex. Fundraising for a good cause is one of the most empowering experiences; and like anything worth doing properly, isn’t always easy. Instead you end up with so many goals it makes your head spin: you want to ensure your guests are entertained, find original ways to appeal and engage with them, build a loyal donators’ database for the charity and… raise funds. What if we told you we could remove all of that pressure?

Based on 8 years of experience, we’ve put together our top tips for running a stress-free and successful event!

Understand your guests. Every event is different with a unique clientele. Ask yourself who is coming, why they’re attending and what they might be interested in. The answers to these questions will help you deliver a bespoke and suitable service. Holding a Rugby themed event? Make sure your auction or raffle not only includes rugby 7s tickets, but a variety of items to appeal to the whole room and choose an outgoing MC capable of harnessing the energy of the room.

Stand Out. Remember, every event you run will introduce the charity to new audiences and donors. Success does not only mean raising significant funds, but raising awareness of the cause and generating donor loyalty. If, following an event for an animal protection charity, guests decide to never purchase fur again, objective achieved! It is important you find that special element that will make you stand out. We are firm believers of thinking outside the box!

Ambience is key! A good atmosphere will help your guests have a great night, leaving with fabulous memories and make them more inclined to participate in auctions and entertainment during the evening. Your guests need to be engaged and involved. An accomplished MC/ Auctioneer will interact with the guests, allowing you to focus on running a smooth event. A well-thought-out running order is crucial to creating a perfectly balanced atmosphere between entertainment and fundraising, guaranteeing #realresults while avoiding an overbearing presence.

Stay Professional. Whether you’re holding a high profile, elegant gala or a fun, laid back ladies lunch, one thing that should stay consistent is the level of professionalism. However, at crunch time, with the stress of lots of little unplanned hassles that seem to pop up simultaneously, it can be hard to juggle everything effectively. Working with a dedicated fundraising team such as FR is your ideal solution. We’re experts and trained to handle any situation, taking the weight off your shoulders and allowing you to actually be a part of your event, act as host and engage with your supporters.

Have fun! Remember, enjoyment is infectious, so if you’re having a good time, your guests most likely are too. We are “FunRaising” for the sole reason that we believe that a truly successful charity event is first and foremost about creating a fabulously fun evening for you and your guests. So channel the #powerofpink and enjoy your fundraising!
